Trigger outs

  • good point!
ok. I could check if the amp envelope reaches zero and then shut off the trigger signal.
So the trigger would be exactly the same length as the audio from the LXR.
I have to see if this does not need too much resources rom the CPU, but I think it should be ok.

MIDI on/off bound trigger length is already working.
    Just tested it this afternoon.
  • hmmm, the only point where binding the trigger length to the amp envelope makes problems is on the open/closed hihat tracks, since they basically share one voice for both tracks.
so a trigger on track 7 would always choke a trigger on track 6 and vice versa.
  • not sure, but that might be more of a feature than a bug.
  • just got to test it a little bit more, then I will upload the update later today i think :)
  • just did some quick testing and I think it works.
For the eager people, here is a link to the github file.
I will write the release notes tomorrow and do some more testing ;)

  • just had a little wiggle with this.

seems to work just fine !

modulating the length of the gate is a lot of fun, as i expected :)

in my opinion the "ch / oh cutting each other off"-thing can be used as a feature.

my 909 kick (clones from hex) triggers nice with longer gates and even with the shortest possible gate length by the way.

on my 808 kick (http://www.anestheticaudio.com/index.php/project/tr-808-bassdrum/) the length of the gate effects the decay of the drum a little bit which is quite nice.

thanks a lot julian. great feature!

Sick! I just got the expansion today and put it together been messing with it all night(with .30) and it works great but just saw this update! Nasty! Haha ask and you shall receive eh? Thanks Julian! Will update firmware tomorrow and give it a go!

Ok I couldn't wait. You nailed it. This is exactly what I was requesting! Its perfect. You just made the trigger riot(on steroids) inside the LXR! lol Sick man just sick. What a piece of gear!
  • :^o
    glad you like it!

the gate mod is amazing!  i finally made time to build the trigger out expander yesterday and it is very impressive. i cut this sample from part of my testing : http://vascaudio.com/LXRtriggers.mp3 (excuse the persistent snare). this is mainly a test of gate mod on the ouputs (into a frequency central gate input and eko delay rate) and clock input tricks into the lxr from lfos/rene/turing machine.

my first trigger output doesn't work right now.  a cold solder joint i'm sure.  everything else is working well but the clock input can be a little tricky.  is it expecting a series of triggers or a square wave?  it will get kind of shuffly at lower settings of either and advance in bursts then at certain clock rates it syncs nicely.

any way around wow this is a huge addition. thank you!
  • hehe I like it :)

regarding the clock in. It should not matter if pulses or rectangles are used. It only reacts to the rising edge of the input signal. But since the internal sequencer is running at 32ppq, I have to sync an internal clock to the external pulses if a lower divission factor than 32ppq is selected for the external clock.

So if you select for example 4ppq as external clock rate, every 16th note (main step) will be forwarded by the external clock pulse. all the substeps inbetween will be forwarded at a fixed rate, calculated from the time between the last external trigger pulses.

So if you select 32ppq as external lock rate it should be completely tight. any lower setting is prone to burst, especially if you use a unregular external clock.

It is also possible that it is still a little buggy. I have not used the external clock sync extensively so far ;)

glad you like it so far! :D
  • oh i see now.  that is exactly how the clock is progressing at lower rates.  sounds pretty great at points really.

i forgot to place a transistor into the first trigger out...that's working now and everything looks great on the scope. being able to 'parameter lock' gate time is so much fun!
  • Put together the trigger io this weekend. Works great! :)
For anyone not having 27 mm standoffs at home here's a nice method for cutting the 30 mm standoffs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_V2WZ4qAn8

  • I finished my trigger extension today and everything works beautiful.
Again it was a joy to solder this kit due to the nice solder guide.
    Thank you, Julian.

A little question concerning the clock dividers: Is it possible to set the clock slower than the internal clock? And double tempo would be nice, too. I think in the moment the possible settings are 1/4/16/32.
Maybe it's possible to to use a symmetric knob with 1 in the middle position, /2 /4 /8 /16 /32 on the left side and *2 *4 *8 *16 *32 on the right side. This would make external clocking much more flexible.

+1.  these would be great additions if possible.
  • @tb323
Please be aware that most Standoffs are Steel, not Aluminium so they are significant harder to cut. And please always wear protective goggles. I know what I'm talking about….
  • @fcd72: Gotcha! Safety comes first of course.
  • First of all, AAAAHHHH !!! The LXR with the trigger extension are so great :-)) thanks so much ! I wasn't hoping that the roll affect the trigger. I tripped so much in modulating a filter with an envelope and change the roll value in the same time. Having the choice to change the gate time is great too.
I haven't test all the possibilities but it seems to work. Just a little question to be sure. Is it a normal behavior that the triggers are activated by the internal sequencer, but aren't activated by note event coming from the midi in port? In the midi settings MTA doesn't concern the trigger out? This behavior is cool to play sound with external sequencer and trigger different steps with the LXR sequencer.
  • Yesterday I soldered and installed the trigger expansion (with s-trig option).  B-)

Everything seems to be working fine, but somehow when I connect the clock out to the sync in of the monotribe nothing happens. When I connect the sync out of the monotribe to the clock in still nothing happens.
The both work fine connected to the clock out of my midi to cv converter, but monotribe and lxr just don't seem to like each other  :((

    Does anyone know why?
  • doesn't the monotribe need v-trig? (i might be wrong though)
  • edited April 2014
It accepts v-trig and cv when playing the synth externally, but I normally use clock to sync the sequencer.
That's why I don't really understand that it doesn't respond to the LXR clock.
  • I understand what you mean now. I also set the clock output to s-trig. Makes sense, thanks loderblast! I'm pretty new to this trigger stuf, i'll fix this tonight.
  • Yep, it works now :))

  • great! that was easy. have fun with it
  • .32 has a bug where shuffle doesnt work when synched to midi clock. .28 is fine. I tested both.
  • it's woooooorking :-)) thanks julian!

  • @Xirso I have not tried it with external MIDI triggers so far. But it is possible that I forgot that case when implementing it. I will check in the code
  • Hi,
I just built an LXR with the trigger extensions.  It's really great but I can't seem to get the triggers to work when I send it MIDI.  I'm guessing from the last post that that's just the way it is?  Or is there some setting I have wrong?
  • I've never tried this, but I guess the triggers only respond to the notes of the internal sequencer.
