Trigger outs will just output a voltage pulse or spike. Not sure how long the pulse lasts in the LXRs case , but its probably just a few milliseconds. The pulse is probably 5 volts 'high' A cv/gate is two signals, one (the gate) is a pulse that stays on for as long as the note is held down, and the other (cv or control voltage) is a precise voltage that correlates to the exact note played. For a drum machine trigger outs make sense, being able to set their duration would be cool too. We must watch out for trying to add too much or else the machine becomes less usable though!
The trigger IO will be available in the shop today. I'll re-open the shop around 6pm CET.
There is a limited quantity of full component kits available, too. These full kits won't be available in the future, since the parts are easy to obtain and available for ~5€ at Reichelt and Co. I'd have to charge nearly the same for the sorting hassle that Reichelt/Mouser/Digikey charge for shipping, so it's not worth it.
Pioneer run members with the early frontpanel boards will get a 5€ discount due to the soldering inconvenience. To claim your pioneer run discount you have to order via e-mail to julian@sonic-potions.com since I can't handle the discount easily in the shop system.
prices will be (incl. VAT) PCB: 10€ B-Grade PCB with wrong hole: 7€ PCB + V-Trigger Components: 16€ Enclosure Backpanel: 20€
I have to correct myself. All people from batch 1 qualify for the discount (board revision 0.4) due to the missing trigger extension header. sorry for the mixup
i tried all of my email adresses with the password recovery but none of them seem to be registered. can you see and tell me what email adress is tied to my customer account please?
~30 full kits. I figured since it's only about 5€ parts cost and everything is available at reichelt/digikey/mouser it just not justifies all ther sorting and cable crimping time I have to put into full kits. Or I would have to raise the price, but then it would be the same as ordering from a distributor and paying the extra shipping charge. Also no hard to find arts on the board.
All orders that are already paid for will ship this afternoon ) . I will now add the batch 1 instructions to the assembly guide and upload the new firmware to the server after that.
@Varthdader I had not the time with all the packing to go through all the emails that are stacking up in my inbox, yet. A few full kits are reserved for the early bird email senders though, so maybe you were lucky... I will work through the emails once the build instructions and firmware are up.
Ok, thanks Julian didn´t mean to make you wade through the endless email marsh.
It is just that for me parts sourcing is almost impossible right now, between the big shipping costs to get stuff here and the new import restrictions we got last couple of months. Just as an example, we are only allowed 2 importations per year! So I have to choose what to bring very carefully...
@julian: Thanks much for thinking of us old-timers! I didn't bother with any discount or so, I figured it will hopefully pay you something for all the time you spent on this project
ugh. I never knew there was another country as unfriendly regarding imports as brazil. If i don't have enough kits left I could re-order some parts for you. Annoying import restrictions are an justified reason for me to sort some extra parts
Hey Julian, you don´t know the half of it. I really appreciate your efforts.
We are only allowed 2 imports per year (no matter the size) and then, we only have a total per annum value of $25 dollars for them! After this value has been exceeded, we have to pay a 50% import tax only payable if one is previously registered online to the local tax authorities...I think the idea is simple, they want people to stop buying stuff online.
God what idiots! I'd just say thanks for the coffee and start working on emigrating if I got exposed to that level of stupidity...
Free trade for free citizens FFS!
@Varthdader: Is it possible to stick small things in a normal letter to get around that import quota? I wouldn't be stranger to the idea of sending some transistors etc to you...
I could bake some Muffins for you and put the parts inside….. and jojjelito surely will mold some bars of chocolate ;-) If you want to emigrate please do not consider Germany. Despite the weather this place here turns into Bananarepublic #1…..
@Julian, fcd72, jojjelito et al: Thanks for the support guys! You can´t imagine how many times lately I have been practicing different ideas around these new regulations.
I do not think this state of things will persist much though. The sheer force of the growth of the online market will make things easier in the long run. Worst case scenario, these regulations will be "waived" tacitly for the brave souls who risk it and order online anyways. But right now, they are in the "campaign" phase, were they want to set examples so that citizens get afraid of ordering online and desist.
We have elections every two years so tides will change I think.
In the meantime, I have to be creative. When I get pcbs or components in normal letters, they get here no problem. The parcels were hit and miss, with some arriving without hitch (like my LXR kit) and others taking 4 months to show up in customs and me having to pay the 50% tax.
Sourcing parts? Well minimum shipping at Mouser is $100 us (just the shipping, plus customs tax of 50%? that makes it $150 bucks just for shipping, no parts included!), Digikey is a more palatable $40 us ($60 with the tax).
This is why I have not assembled my Midirex of MidiAlf yet. And this is why I love full kits.
Please don´t get the wrong impression, I am quite happy with life in general here, but one has these silly, utterly braindead stuff happen very now and then, I think mostly so we don´t get bored with life!
