FINISHED!!!

edited July 2013 in General
hi! received the kit today, and just finished the soldering, and it works
:D am I the first? I hope, the sd-image is up soon. is there a instruction
for the case?
so, my fastest built... everything is fine, one IC misses the ICxx description,
everything else is fine, wonderful work from sonic p.!
I hope to see a lot of different firmwares, like mpc like sample players etc.
keep on soldering :)

  • Congratulations on the successfull build! :D
    You are fast!
I'm currently assembling the SD card image.
should be up in the next half hour.
  • I've not yet made it to make photos for the case assembly instructions.
But here is the instruction for the shruthi case that is very similar

  • thanks, I closed the box more or less good, to be able to play arround...
    :bz
after doing some tests and playing arround:
    :))
this thing rocks! can´t wait to connect my other boxes to it...
    :x

Whoa. I think I spent 3 hours watching Star Trek/soldering this thing...I'm just past half way or so. (After spending about the same time running after this and other parcels)
  • VIDEOS VIDEOS VIDEOS !!! :x
  • yes yes... sooon :)
the drumsets are very very nice, the algoritms are very versatile, a lot of options etc.
    I am VERY PLEASED

    =))
  • 100 to begin, 100's more waiting. its a winner!

i am pleased like never before.. just couldn't find an emoti to express that joy.

mine has no case and is covered with dog hair, all part of stress testing.

Pet hair is on the the unofficial BOM of mods. Fur and whiskey-barrel aged Moonstone knobs will make it a truly hi-fi machine ;)
  • If it's enough dog hair, maybe it will pass as a case?
  • A very special LXR "Chewbacca edition"? Sounds very cool
  • I had to put a cloth over mine to avoid the "cat hair edition"
  • ok, so far we have the chewbaca and the haunted mansion edition... who offers more weird enclosure ideas?

What's wrong with the good old transparent one? (Also finally finished mine  :D )

  • congratulations!
I'm really eager to hear what you gonna do with it! :)

I painted my OLED PCB black using a marker ;)
  • edited July 2013
Already attempted a Kraftwerk-ish pattern, then the battery died >.< Will have to dig through my basement for a 9V supply. Also good idea using a marker, but the crappier, diy-ish it looks, the better.

Low voltage has a really funny effect on this box...
  • Looks great! Both of them :)
  • Hey @Diwib, is there a logic to why the grey caps are on 4, 8 ,12, and 16?  I naturally would have done 1,5, 9, 13...
  • edited July 2013
1,5,9 and 13 are already highlighted on the enclosure but I tend to set my kicks the way I mounted the knobs (and LEDs) so it doesn't start right off with a kick the moment you press play...for some reason I don't like that ;)

Coming from an EMX-1 I don't really care about standards, lol.

Yep, this must be the left-handed version ;-)
  • Interesting...I thought it might have been dubstep  :D
  • Finished LXR in about 4,5 hour. This is my first DIY kit, so i'm glad & proud of :)

Ofcourse there are 2 mistakes what i made: OLED is to high and enclosure don't fit & mix button doesn't fit (i must remove it and solve once again), but this 2 bugs are not bad: LXR rulez in my studio :)

Ouuu jeeeeaaaa :) I'm going play some beats :)

    (some photos: poterski.com/implant_sonic_potion_lxr.zip)
  • @implant: I fucked up with the OLED, too. Mine is not only too hight but I mounted it slightly slanted.

Already tried to desolder the OLED and have not been successful so far so I'm curious if you will be able to fix it.
  • The key with the display is to try and get it as level as possible, solder one pin, adjust, then solder a pin at the other end of the pin array, adjust again if necessary, then solder the rest. I didn't manage to get mine 100% level, but it's OK, and looks fine.

The one thing I did get noticeably wonky was the power socket. When the plug is inserted it's fairly obviously angled to the right. The big solder pads discourage me from attempting to straighten it, though.

  • Finished mine yesterday. Works as it should! Approx 2.45h to build, no problems.

What's the part number for the buttons? I'd like to have black ones only...

  • congrats on the build!
order numbers for the caps are

    mouser
    Black: 611-21125
    White: 611-F0202
    Grey: 611-F0204
    Red: 611-F0203

    digikey
    Black: 401-1215-ND
    White: 401-1216-ND
    Grey: 401-1217-ND
    Red: 401-1218-ND

  • Thansk! Should've checked the BOM first.. :\">
  • Hi Julian and forum,

first of all, thanks for this great machine!

Took about 5 hours to build, the only issues i had were the display
connector (took the plastic thing away in the end, then it was fine)
and one forgotten LED, it was late... :)

Soldering was sometimes a bit tricky because of the close spacings,
but easy enough to do with a good soldering iron. The preparation of
the kit and the instructions were excellent!

I have some minor issues which could be related to bad equipment or just human error on my side:

Sometimes, but not reproduceable, i have problems setting steps, or
the LEDs are not updating the status (even with new Firmware).

The second thing is a bit of noise coming in from the power supply,
probably also a grounding thing since it is just a minimal setup with
just a headphone amplifier. I noticed the cases of the pots were not
    grounded in the build, right?

Some ideas for the next update:

The pattern generator is great, it would be cool to shift the patterns through the steps.

Morphing works mostly well, but some voices become really messy in
the process. Perhaps some parameters shouldn't morph in a linear way at
    all?

I just read an interesting article about humanizing drum patterns. See the source here:

Wouldn't that be a nice feature?

    Thanks and greetings!
  • Noise comes from a too smal power supply, had this problem also in the beginning.
should be enough amperage (it´s inside the manual)
  • It is an audio grade 9V 1.7A power supply, but i have to admit that my setup was perhaps not properly grounded due to 2 wall warts...
  • My case came today!
