ah thanks mqldng it all makes sense now - yes sounds ideal. About to attempt to revise all night again so attention will wander & bound to have some flash of inspiration I feel compelled to share...
- but in advance of any crazy 4am ideas I'll give a big thumbs-up to Erlenmeyer - sounds the part and will reward anyone who says"..but why?"
See Julian you just needed to hear our attempts before you realised yours was the best
I can totally imagine making beat sequences on an Erlenmeyer or are only my Mediterranean ears that associate anything Germanic to hi-tech? Vorsprung durch Technik, anyone?
The unit is born in a laboratory, right? it is pretty alive, right? it probably will nice and charming but also will have its other face, the monster, the beast. we don´t know exactly what it is, because it will have a life of it´s own. the name has the start with "The..." like i the marvell comics. A mix of Hulk and Frankenstein. So, what about.
hey, i was checking out some nice name for him/her? so, I thought, the unit looks a bit like a drum machine and a MI device had an one night stand. so why not give him/her a indian name?
another name idea from fcd72 would be 'Nemesis". Although not potion related I like the sound of it.
I'm just a bit reluctant since there are allready a lot of things/bands/movies... (although surprisingly no synth yet) with this name (so is it a bit too generic?)
I would be happy if the reference would be a bit more positive than the goddess of revenge The name Nemesis is related to the Greek word νέμειν [némein], meaning "to give what is due". (I'd favour eris from the meaning , but her name is not as cool as nemesis)

THE HULKENSTEIN
:-)))
hrhrhr I like your post! The Hulkenstein(er) is great, but makes me think of something like this
& with a pair of crusty old speakers and a sub I'm pretty sure you could run a block party with this thing... ah, back in the eighties when digital was young fresh and new *-:)

Apparently it's Ancient Greek for Alembic hence potion-related.
I think it sounds catchy.
The only problem is that it is really close to MI's Ambika...
:-w
some more ideas...
slowly i'm getting all confused thinking about names...
reflux (from reflux still)
moonshine (from the illegal alcohol)
beaker
mescal
mandrake
hemlock
kumquat
gridlock
estragon
reagent
bunsen
erlenmeyer (somehow i like this)
Theriac - sounds vaguely electronic but is in fact a Greek potion

Personnaly I cannot see myself saying something like "Hey dude you wanna check my Erlenmeyer, it makes some incredible sounds ! "

what do you think?
Again amazingly still there for the taking as far as physical drum machines go....
don't think you need to worry about some home-cooked reaktor software thing i found on the web, apart from that it's yours
