SD card Image

edited July 2013 in General
The SD card image can be found here:
http://www.sonic-potions.com/public/SdCardImage.zip

The included Firmware version is V0.21!

The pattern presets are still missing and the sound presets need some further sorting and naming.
I will fix this over the next days.

A problem from my side ?

Have you remembered to hold the encoder pressed while starting the machine?
  • did the bootloader screen and the binary blinkenlight appear?

I've encountered an SD card problem It's a 2GB pny and formatted FAT32.  Whenever I press the load/save button in any way, I get "SD card, init error" and have to reboot to clear it. As a result I can't load or save any presets or parameters. Whats going on? I have updated to the latest firmware and the problem persists.

On an unrelated note, is there a master volume anywhere?
  • Master Volume is mostly somewhere on the righthand side of your Mixer ;-)
  • Resolved by pushing the encoder at booting ! Thanks !

what do you mean by master volume?
    An sd card image clone?
  • i think he means master audio level.

  • i think he means master audio level.

Yes I don't see anything in the manual about master audio volume.
Also, I tried using a different [albeit smaller] SD card and I can now save and load! Smart media seems to work better than the PNY.

    Had the same problem. :D
Julian, i think you should mention it in the readme file within the SD card image. and maybe in the construction manual too. ;)
i really thought i was to stupid to format a SD card on Linux...

as for the master volume: i guess there is none. should there be one? i don't think it's necessery.
  • I'm thinking about adding a small quickstart flyer to the kit including basic information about updates, SD cards and linkstobuild instruction/manual.

'just' has to be designed first ;)

If you need any help with this just drop me a line ... InDesign is my daily job.
  • If you want to print: i'm the owner of print shop :)
  • good to know ;)
  • this is probably a stupid question, but is the SD card included in the kit?

if not, what kind should i get / what size?

sorry if this is really stupid haha
  • I use these - super tough, waterproof etc, and cost about 8 euro on Amazon - you can get a 4G version for half the price, smaller ones don't get much cheaper so best to get 4 or 8 G depending on your needs. Formatted mine in a digital camera worked first time no problem on LXR.

  • ah ok, thank you for your input! really appreciated!
  • I've got the same card and it worked out of the box.
But for all future kits the SD card problems should be solved with the new bootloader.
I finished it today, still needs some testing, but I hope all these formatting troubles should be solved with the next release.
  • Will Batch 1 LXR´s be able to upgrade to this new Bootloader? Would be great!
  • only with the help of an external avr burner.
    The bootloader can't overwrite itself.
  • Will you offer Upgrade/Swap AVRs?
  • Sysex upgrading is not possible?

Interested in an upgrade/swap IC then, since I have zero AVR burning abilities, unless that is, somebody points me in the direction of very-very simple instructions suitable for primates!
  • sysex upgrade is only possible for anything besides the bootloader (since the bootloader would be needed to talk sysex)

Sure, I could offer an upgrade service, I just don't know if it makes that much sense.
taking into account the costs for an AVR, shipping, and a little bit for the burning effort, you are very likely in the same pricerange as if you'd buy a cheap avr burner (usbAsp or similar)

    give a man a fish... ;)

On the other hand I'm not sure the update is really needed. I don't think you would swap the SD cards for firmware updates that often. And someone with a windows PC to format a new card should always be available. I know there is a way to format the card the right way on OSX, too. I just don't know how. The one guy who successfully did it can't remember what did the trick.

The updated bootloader is more of a convenience for me, as I don't have to advice so many people how to get their firmware update working in the future.
  • Some valid points there Julian!

I would like to update my firmware anyways though.

It would be great if somebody pointed me to a AVR burner, I would find some use for it within all the DIY synths I have around, but I was just hesitant to buy one and then find out it is not compatible with my synths and or Macbook.

I went nuts trying to format in OSX, scoured the internet trying to find a way, but had no luck. I had to format it at work on a Windows machine.

I would upgrade the LXR just for that change alone!

Plus, I would love to future-proof my Batch 1 LXR with any upcoming little "upgrades" no matter how trivial, be it the bootloader, the hot-plug issue or the triggers. I like my products as polished as they can be.

    I am crazy that way!
  • For OSX you should try this: https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/

It's as close you'll get to an official formatting util supported by the major (and minor) SD manufacturers.

  • Will try the above, thanks SG88!
  • Hey Varthdader - lets know if it works for you - I used it once to format an SD for my raspberry Pi on Mac and it worked just fine :)

If you are willing to get the trigger extension anyways, I could add another AVR to that order. So no additional shipping fees will be charged.
  • Cool idea!

Let us know when and how much and I am right in the cue for it!
