I'm also using MOTU: the 2408 MK3 and 24 i/o MK3.
I'm very happy with those.

MOTU Ultralite Mk3 Hybrid on Mac here. Great interface for the size (and with a couple of preamps), but not within your specified budget sadly, even secondhand.
