Wishlist: load/save individual voices

  • This is not a feature in the stock firmware, but I have a fairly stable custom firmware going that allows you to import individual voices from other kits quickly. There are no extra file types - sounds are still saved as a single kit, but it allows you to accomplish much the same thing.
  • As I understand it, the firmware update above (Berndanclarke Nov 2014) allows now for storing sounds as individual presets. Is that right?
I know nothing about updating firmware, so, as a bit of a newb to this side of things (!), is it straightforward to install?
  • Hi Brendan. OK.
What do u mean by 'extra file types' ?
  • Also, as I asked before, is it easy then to install these updates-sorry i just don't know much about this !
  • There are currently 5 file types the LXR uses - drumkit (.snd), pattern (.pat), performance (.prf), and 'all' (.all). The '.snd' file contains parameters for all 6 voices - there isn't a file type for a single voice, what I have in my firmware are extra entries in the menu that let you 'grab' a single voice's parameters from any other kit that has been saved.

I think the resulting workflow is quite efficient - you don't need to think about saving voices individually, and you can easily audition sounds from all your saved kits as the pattern plays.

Swapping firmware is really easy! just change the 'FIRMWARE.BIN' on your SD card and then press and hold the encoder when you turn on the LXR. Reboot when it's finished and the new firmware is good to go.

You can pretty easily swap between .36 and my custom one. Anything you save while working in the .36 firmware will load the same in mine. The reverse should be more-or-less true as well.

I maintain a directory of the firmware I'm using currently, a reasonably up-to-date backup of my SD card, an explanations of the additions I've made, and a to-do list at:
    brendanclarke.com/files/LXR

it might be down for a little bit though, as I'm changing hosts...
  • OK thanks a lot Brendan !
