There is the same behavior under the "MOD" menu of voice 6. When the destination is dialed to "ch", then the external MIDI connection is lost, requiring a reboot of the LXR.

Until then, a custom control surface with MIDI Designer for iPad will work well. Nice for designing drum sounds, especially because there's no cumputer in between.
