I managed to compile the firmware on my MacBook and modified the MIDI so that I can play and record from my Axiom controller drum pads. It gives the beats a bit of groove and velocity variations with the live record and I can put in some accents and fills with some finger drumming.

Thanks to the community for the instructions on setting up and compiling. It will be fun to see what else I can come up with for modifications.

    I set notes 0-6 to play the default notes on the respective voices with the drum pads and the rest play notes on the active track from the keyboard. Works both while playing and recording. Very happy with this setup.
