CAD File for Custom Enclosure?

edited February 2016 in General
My wife has access to a laser cutter at work, and I need an enclosure for my newly built LXR. Does anyone have a file they've used for cutting an enclosure? I have no experience with this type of design so can't do it myself, but really want a metal case and not acrylic.

I could probably offer to have one cut for anyone who helps out if I can convince my wife. I live in Portland, OR, USA so you'd have to cover shipping.

Thanks in advance for any help.

  • unless this is a massive machine, you wont be able to cut metal thats of any useful thickness (usually ~1mm for standard CO2 machines).  The files for the case are in the wiki
  • Thanks. I knew I saw them somewhere. She works for an architecture firm so it's a serious machine, but I'll have to research.

It's not something an architecture firm would have, its something you would find in a factory. To cut a 1mm thick piece of aluminum, you need a 1000 watt C02 laser.  You're probably better off with non-ferrous materials.

This is what a 1000 watt laser cutting machine looks like:
    It has doors.

  • You were right. She was confused when I was asking her what they have. Looks like I'll be going acrylic or waiting for the next metal case run.
  • Acrylics fine. You can get the file for the LXR plastic case off the website and get it cut. Unless you're gigging around it's perfectly good.
