That's pretty awesome. I'd love to be on board with this, too. Hopefully the Bastl thing will be open-source as well or allow some kind of customizing of the MIDI messages it transmits. If not... it's possible for me to do a version of my FW that goes back to the original MIDI parameter assignments, I just tried to keep away from NRPN's since some sequencers don't support them.
ed: please enjoy this composite in the hopes it will save you squinting through all those flashing green letters.
on YT: +Brendan Clarke it totally will be open. aaand the machine will get a great use to anybody who can twiddle with few parameters in arduino
and another one: (this sounds very cool..) dont worry:) we are super excited about possible mods! Now the SixtyKnobs case is exact same size as LXR case which brings out couple of cool ideas for skilled builders
Very cool, interested in seeing the board(s). Might be time to build an LXR for myself
They need to dump using the main midi in and put that nice unused expansion header to work
agree, it would be a speedier way of adding knobs and pads without adding MIDI jitter. It remains to be seen how much can be added to the shift register without slowing the AVR down too much...
I was just thinking that an awesome addition to what they've shown so far would be some CV inputs so we could get our racks controlling parameters of the LXR.
Oh I meant to mention, Bastl told me there would be a built and a DIY version hopefully, so if there aren't CV outs/ins, I suppose it would be fairly easily modded and stuff...
Well. 64 knobs implies an array of 64 potentiometers. Most controllers with potentiometers have them set up as voltage-dividers between 3.3v and 0v. These are scanned and and A/D-converted before encoded in the uC into midi-data. So using external cv with a controller is quite easy in most cases. You will need to setup an opamp or two for scaling, offsetting external CV as well as protection. Olivier uses basic circuits like this on most of his modules if you need "inspiration".

"The 60knobs is almost ready. We just released another instrument and 60knobs is next on the line;)
Best regards,
Leoš"
Got an email from Bastl about a week ago:
"60 knobs is not finished. It probably will be available in late 2017"
