Pattern sets

edited November 2015 in General
Guys, I've had my lxr for a few months and it is my main piece of kit. However I tend to read the basics and then get on with playing. I now want to load multiple patterns for the pattern sets so I can switch live, however on reading the manual I haven't got a clue how this works. Any ideas. I was under the impression you could save 8 patterns and switch them in performance mode.

Thanks

  • all 8 patterns (I will henceforth refer to them as sub-patterns) are stored in a single *.pat file, and the entire 8 are loaded when a pattern is loaded. The same data in a .pat is stored in '.all' and '.prf' also.

If the sequencer is running when you switch pattern data by loading a .pat, performance, or 'all', the currently playing sub-pattern will keep playing until changed manually or with a PC MIDI message.

I don't think there is a way to copy sub-patterns between pattern set data, but you can always save the pattern set and kits separately.
  • Cheers for the reply Brendan however I'm still unsure how it all works . If I have a pattern playing and load another it switches to the new one as far as I am aware. I'm not sure how I load them to the slots and then save the whole lot as 'all' ?

Can't see anything in the manual about this.

  • The data for all 8 pattern slots is load/saved at once, regardless of whether you are load/saving 'pattern', 'performance', or 'all'. When you are in 'perf' mode, pressing one of the 8 'select' buttons switches to a new pattern slot. Anything written to that slot will be saved along with everything in the other 7 slots. There isn't, AFAIK, a way to load/save just one sub-pattern slot to or from another file.

I think some repeat/next settings (shift-select button while in perf mode) and 'pattern change reset' (global menu) can cause the pattern to change on the next bar after load. I tend to only change patterns manually.

    Hope that helps! :)
  • Cheers Brendan, I got it now, easy when you know how, been busy all week so only just got chance to try it
