Damned Control Change !

Hi all,
This is my first post.
i have built the LXR since few month and enjoy a lot with it !
I only have Midi issues... First and very strange, caming back of one month traveling, the Midi In didn't want to work anymore ?
A reboot of the OS resolved it directly but was quite strange...

My questions is about the Control Change.
I understood (and that's quite sad) the LXR can't send CC via Midi.
It would be very intersting to record knobs movements in a daw or other Midi sequencers but ok, looks like impossible now, never mind but this is my first point Whishlist !
The only way remain to programm CC in a daw or midi hard sequencer (MPC 1000 in my case) to send to the LXR.
But....
I've several issues with that !
I tried a ot of things without success, the Lxr doesnt want to "eat" my CC.
TFX and RFX or both on "all".
For example, when i put a CC 41 in my daw to change the freq filter of the snare, i draw and nothing happen.
Its exactly the same in the MPC, when i move the slider from 0 to 127 on a CC41 or anyone else, nothing happen in the LXr...

Does the values on the LCD Screen should move in real time ?
Do i have to respect the voice order ? Do there is a link wih the chanel midi number ? (my chanels start at 5 for the kick, 6,7,8 for the snare etc...)
Of course when i send CC i'm on the channel of the voice i want to change the value but what i mean is than my snare is on channel 8 but remain voice 4 no ?
All helps welcome, i think i'm closed !
Thanks !

  • First thing to check is that you don't have set any specific 'global' channel. It should remain at '0' so it doesn't override the individual voice channels. At least this is my experience.

Concerning your snare filter example ... make sure the filter is enabled or at least you have it set in a way that changes on LXR are audible.

But I can confirm a bit unpredictable or inconsistent behavior of LXR when being under external MIDI CC. I usually use global params like bit reduction and morph. Sometimes they respond OK (but not as smooth as direct LXR knob twiddle) and other times it barely reflects changes being sent to it but it could be my setup. It needs deeper investigation from my side.
  • I'm currently not at home to check my settings, but I used a MIDI controller just a few days ago to control some voice parameters like FM amount and Freq with CCs without problems.

Of course the voice midi channel should match.
  • Hi, thanks for answers.
i think my issues come from a Midi input problem.
As i said, few days ago, coming back from one month traveling, i directly pluged the Lxr and : impossible to make it start with midi signal in, impossible to receive note... Strange, i check all my settings, all is ok...
Ok, i try to reboot. It works ! When i started on after reboot, the midi in was directly recognized and functionnal.

2 days after (yesterday) ready to make a nice track, i plug all (Mpc 1K sequencing Lxr and synthetiser), it works. I start to compose and at one point, i was running a easy sequence in the MPc playing only the Lxr on 3 differents channels and changing patch on this last one to find a good one...
It worked correctly but after maybe 10 moves of knobs changing patch in the Lxr in the load page....> I lost the connection  :(
    Looks like Lan... 8-}
Ok, i told me: Its boring but i found than i just have to reboot... I did : nothing changed...
The same after 5 or 6 reboot on v0.34.

I dont know where come from the problem, hard, soft ?
I can try to send pics of my soldering point of midi input but there is the LCD next that hide a bit...
What's strange is than the first time a reboot of Os was enough....
Do there is a way to test the midi input with a multimetre ?

Very annoying to cannot use he Lxr without midi connection...
All helps welcome, i've time to test what you suggest  B-)

    Thanks, i'm boiling !

    Ok, for informations,
I've just tried via USB (for lack of anything better...) and it works.
(impress of how my Daw detected it easily =D> )
But... I'm used to use a MPC to sequence and any computer...
It works with: Mpc master -> Computer -> Lxr.
The start signal and pads pushing travel from the Mpc to the Drum machine. Synchro = done, channels for playing each voice = ok
The problem is than i don't want to use a computer as midi interface !
So, i'm looking for a: USB B (square) - Midi (5pin) câble to go out from Mpc with midi pin out to Lxr with Usb B in... That doesn't exist !
    =((
    :-?
  • You would need a 'USB host' in between, something that will 'translate' to/from MIDI/USB MIDI. I.e. Kenton USB Host or one of the iConnectMIDI boxes. I have iConnectMIDI4+ and can't be happier with it. Really flexible MIDI patchbay/merger/filter/re-mapper in 1HU half rack package. I use it mainly for connecting > merging > chan. redirecting MIDI controllers with USB output only but it works in opposite direction too.
  • Thks for the reference but it's a bit expensive !
i'm still waiting for to understand what's the issue with my MIDI IN....
Why a reboot maked it worked again ?
Why now nothing go in anymore....?
I would just like to know if there is a possible Os issue before to go back in the un-solder and re-solder adventure.... ?  #-o
