Lead synth and Bass synth sounds on the LXR?

edited December 2014 in General
I am trying to use the LXR as an all-in-one box for a band i play in, and am trying to make two of the drum tracks play a synth lead and synth bass respectively. It's sort of working (i.e. I can play melodic patterns on the tracks at higher and lower octaves), but I am struggling to make the synths sound passable (they don't need to be brilliant - it's for a fairly lo-fi synth-punk band). Has anyone tried doing this and got any patch suggestions?
All the best

Here is my simples (as im a newbie to synthetizer) tips to make basslines (techno/house) on the lxr :
First i like to automate decay and use velocity to add more groove. I like to match the decay of the kick and the bassline for not overlapping. Side compression on an daw for example can help too.
I use the midi notes in the step mode (but i dont know what pitch to use in the oscillators section to really match the notes)
Sometimes, an lfo to the filter cut off can add some stuff. You should try with all lfos functions, this is some fun to experiment . On a 1 bartime or more you can make tight modulations. Dont be afraid to try more than one lfo . have fun ;) .
Also, i like to add fm, if you "stepnote" your steps, the fm will match the "pitchstepnote". You can play with the pitch decay etc
I like to try to use the click section too , and use lfos on it.
I use a lot the overdrive.
Dont do all the tips at the same time tho.
If you find sample of bass you like, try to use it :)

I'm a newbie to synthetize tricks so i came to this by tweaking and tweaking.REading the soundonsound article can help but i dont know whats your knowlegdes are on the subject.
;) have fun and try things and things

  • cool, thanks for that. I understand the principle of making Bass and Lead sounds in general, its more specifically the challenge of doing so on the LXR, since it really isn't set up to do it.
Any one else managed it? Particularly what tuning settings to use to get the right pitch?
    thanks!
