2 buttons not working

edited November 2014 in General
Since i upgraded to my Girts enclosure, two of the buttons (step & mod) have stopped working.

To make troubleshooting a bit trickier, i can no longer access the top of the main board as it's glued to the light pipes.

Not sure if things went south when I was re-soldiering the light diodes in a bit lower, or when i screwed the case onto the board... but either way, those 2 buttons no longer work.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated as my LXR's a bit unusable at the moment - bittersweet moment given how good it looks in its new enclosure.

  • they still feel clicky? ;)

not much that could be wrong.
    - step button (from voice, perf, step, load/save group) is attached to U10 pin13 and +5V
    - mod (from osc, mic, filter, aeg ... group) is attached to U6 pin 4 and +5V

here are 2 pics to show the connection

  • i would check that both buttons have 5V and also check the soldering at the buttons and the corresponding ICs.
both can be done without removing the PCB from the enclosure.
  • Soldering seens fine, but clickiness appears to be the problem for step and also drum3 to a lesser extent.

Mod button is clicking just fine, but nothing happens...

I haven't got anything to check voltage with at the moment, but will check over the weekend.
  • urgh... really managed to mess this case build up. I think the issue is with glue on the button contacts as when testing, voltage seems to be OK.

to clarify, I applied too much glue on the light pipes, then tried to remove excess from the case using acetone and I think some run-off may have got into the button contacts.

not sure how to fix it now as the case is now fixed firmly onto the LEDs. nightmare.

any ideas, or does anyone fancy trying to salvage mine for ££?
  • I could fix it for you for the shipping costs since it is partly due to the wrong hole size on this batch ;)
But I think I won't have time before christmas for something like that.

did you measure if the button contact closes when you press it?
  • Hi Julian,

Not sure as I returned the volt meter to my friend... But yes please, Definitely been to take you up on that offer!! could you PM your address?

    Thanks,
    Alex
