LEDS for steps 9-16 suddenly not lighting up [SOLVED]

edited November 2014 in General
Has anyone experienced this before?  Am I missing something obvious here,  all LEDs were lighting up fine up until about half an hour ago when putting in new case.

Have I inadvertently adjusted something in the menus that would account for this??

All other LEDs work fine and the LXR makes plays the sounds for all the steps .. just the last 8 on the chase light seem to not want to light up all of a sudden.

  • hmmm, i am not a pro ,but could it be some bed solder , maybe some of the resistor networks lost connection?

In a bizarre twist of fate I sat dejected for ten minutes then tried again ... still no change then while sat tinkering with buttons ... notably the click and fm buttons the lights came back on ... also when I put into step mode the leds all work.

Very odd I think perhaps I am missing something and slipping in to a mode where the last 8 leds are not used ??

  • sound to me like a cold solder joint.
the chaselight is either using all 16 leds or none at all.

have a look at the schematic page 7:
    http://www.sonic-potions.de/sites/default/files/documents/FrontpanelSchematic.pdf

the LEDs of step 9-16 are all connected to U3 (74hc595) and RR1
the other LEDs are all working?

then I would think it is either pin 1 of RR1 (the gnd connection of the resistir network with the dot)
or possibly pin 12 of U3 (this signals to update all connected LEDs)

  • I think that may be it,  all other LEDs are working fine (as is the sound) ... now if I button mash slightly around the click/filter buttons the LEDs for steps 9-16 work although occasionally dimmer than the rest.  Possibly the pressure I'm applying there is making the connection on the board underneath?

I will check the joints you mention and see if that alleviates things.

    Thanks :)

  • That was the problem, reflowed a few suspect connections and all is well

    Candy time :)
