No Sound with Firmware v0.33, v0.34. Several other Issues

edited August 2014 in Troubleshooting
Hello!
My freshly build LXR doesn´t seem to produce any sound when running firmware v0.33 or v0.34, while v0.32 (and other versions i tested < v0.33) works alright, well at least soundwise. v0.33 and v0.34 give me a "Kit Read Error" on startup, whether or not there are kits stored on the SD card.
A kit i saved while running v0.34 loaded in v0.32 makes the LXR inaudible, when it´s deleted from the SD card the LXR goes back to working like before (running v0.32). I´ve tested several combinations with saving and loading kits in different firmware versions, with mixed results regarding the "Kit Read Error", but I have not been able to produce sound with v0.33 and v0.34.
When I save a kit (v0.32) and restart: no sound. Loading an empty kit after saving: again no sound... Maybe signs of a corrupted SD card?

Another thing I encountered was after loading samples from the SD card. When a sample is selected as waveform or FM source, the sequencer immediately, can´t be started again, and the step buttons do not respond. This happens whether or not the sequencer is running.

I ran into other issues while operating the LXR I wasn´t able to reproduce, like voices going inaudible while editing them, some load/save troubles, global settings like ParameterFetch or the MIDI settings reset after reboot and others..

The LXR was my first bigger soldering project, so it´s possible I made some mistakes, but I was very careful regarding polarized parts and IC placement and so on... Soo I really hope somebody can help me resolve these problems or has an idea on what went wrong because on the rare occasions I can actually use this machine, it rocks :D
Thank You!

  • when no kit is loaded the LXR will be silent in the recent firmware versions.
    you first have to manually enable volume and envelope settings.

    about the kit load error.
    are you able to save files and load system settings? so the sd card is working in general and you are just not able to load kits? hav you tried to copy some of the factory kits to the sd card again?
    maybe run a disk scan on the sd card to search for errors?

    Thanks for the quick response.
    It´s not about the voice settings, I tried settings that produced sound before (without a kit loaded or even SD card inserted).
    Saved factory settings are automatically recalled after a restart. When I load a kit the parameters on the display change accordingly, but there´s no sound coming out. I checked the SD card with OSX Disk Utility and it seems to be ok.
    I never had any factory kits to begin with, where do I get them?

    Ah, btw I noticed an oddly placed resistor (r29) on the mainboard, with one side soldered to the connector (the one below BAC1, labeled USB..something). I figured its on purpose, but is it ? ;) I can take a picture later.

    I have to update some files in this package (old firmware...) but you can try the presets.
  • Ok, I formatted the card again and threw the factory kits on it, now everything seems to work like a charm.
    You designed a very very fine piece of equipment here Julian, which will joyfully be tested in detail this weekend :D Thanks for your help!
  • hi again i´m still running into some problems.. when i save a kit on the first slot (P000.SND on the card) i get no sound out of the lxr when i restart it. hitting play starts the sequencer and transmits the midi clock, but theres no chaselight on the lxr, but steps can be entered. i deleted everything from the card except the first factory kit (named slak) and its ok, saving and loading on the other slots works ok...
    i can work around that issue, but my goal was to have a custom default kit on startup.
    AND sample loading problem still occurs as described above.
    thanks!
  • hm, well.. i replaced the GLO.CFG file on the card with the one provided with the http://www.sonic-potions.com/public/SdCardImage.zip
    now all the changes on the P000.SND kit are recalled after restart.. does that make any sense?

    whatever.. sample uploading works, but somewhat strange.
    i tried various samples and naming them but here´s how it ends up:
    (i used the same sample named 0...7, a...h, 01...08 etc...)
    choosing waveform
    s0 = sample plays
    s1= nothing
    s2= plays
    s3= nothing
    s4= plays
    s5= nothing
    s6= plays
    s7= nothing
    s8= plays
    s9= plays
    s10= nothing
    s11= plays
    s12= plays
    s13= nothing
    s14= plays
    s15= plays
    s16= nothing
    s17= plays
    s18= plays
    s19= nothing
    end of waveforms.
    its a mono 44.100 16 bit file, 39kb
    i dont get it.
    any ideas?
