Rotary encoder

I recently bought my myself a pre-made LXR, but unfortunately the rotary encoder doesn't work for when you turn it, but works when you push it. I'd prefer to try and fix it myself before sending it back. I've updated the firmware, so I can definitely rule that out. Has anyone had any similar experiences?

first you could check if all pins of the encoder are soldered.
the button has 2 pins on 1 side.
the turning function 3 pins on the other side of the encoder.
maybe it is just a forgotten pin?
