header error normally means it can open the file but the content is wrong. firmware images should start with 'SPFI' when you look at them with a hex editor.
Ok, thanks guys, I finally got it. The problem was that I downloaded a FIRMWARE.BIN but it actually wasn't (~~) It was just the text explaining about the firmware, strange. And after I threw into TextEdit again, I recognized the SPFI. Mann, was I happy to see the the Marimba letters, and now I have to check it :-))

I have the same problem, it allways shows header error.. I tryed swapping the SD card. Nothing works. The official firmware works great. How you solved @MIXRASTA?
Hello, I don't understand what I should do, Do you want me to rebuild the firmware.bin and push it on github?
Note that I will release this week a new firmware LXR-OWL that will contain only 5 effects (simple compressor, decimate & bit crusher, strange filter, bit rotate, reversed bits). and of course the random patterns, random sounds and the "step seq loop and divide" will be still present.
Can you wait until I publish this new release ?
The LXR-Marimba on its FX is quite experimental compared to the LXR-OWL release. Tell me what do you prefer? thanks.
I think the problem is when you directly save the file from the 1st post in this thread. It is not a direct link to the firmware file but to the github page
byt the way, I am uploading the new LXR code (LXR-OWL).. it works, but I need to improve the code, the credits.txt, etc... but you can take the firmware and play with FX 1 to 8 .
Hello alltogether, I am new to the LXR having worked with it just a few weeks since christmas.
Today I was trying out the Marimba FW. I had no prolems loading it neither the Owl Fw but to my surprise i could not find or get to the menues. Meaning I could not access the FX all menues etc just looked normal as in standart FW like. I used a dedicated SD Card tried out different versions of FW eg Marimba /OWL, but the results where the same.
Am I right in just exchanging the FW file from the original SD Card Image ?
@ericfoxx SOrry for late reply, I spend too much time on ohpeewon and sequencer I-) But Julian and egnouf already explained it. It's just that you didn't download the right file, it may be named FIRMWARE.BIN but actually isn't. Okay I said that before, but the right one is there, when it is about 260 kB... just give it another try. But with the downloading the OWL I had no problem, i hope you neither!
Hey so it seems like the looping parameters have been replaced with "FX1" and "FX2" parameters which both control some kind of bit-mangling effect? As nice as the effect is I would prefer to have access to the loop effects. Is there a previous version where this feature is stable? Going to try OWL now to see if it works.
In fact, I made a design choice. Let me try to explain (sorry for my english): - I could not really in live make a nice looping effect as you had to turn 2 knobs to change the looping points, and if possible in sync with the whole loop otherwise you may get some noizy sounds (sync issue).
At that time, it was easier for me to use the steps 9 to 16 to launch the looping fx. Now, I have to admit that my looping FX is not flexible anymore...
I could experiment the following: - in the section FX (compressor, bit crusher...), the knob 1 is used to choose the FX you want. I could add the looping FX in the list. - If you choose the Looping FX, Knob 2 and 3 wil be used to define the start and the end of the loops. Knob 4 will be used to arm the FXs (on/off in sync).
Tell me what you think of this? for me could be a nice idea to experiment... no?

anyhow, try with another sdcard and tell me...

I put a sound to show the new fx on http://www.soundcloud.com/djsmao/ look for the 8bit project :-)

Do you use custom samples in LXR or is it another box I hear in your demo?

This should be the direct link to the file:

Thanks for help
hold down the encoder while turning the power on and the firmware file on the SD card will be installed/flashed to memory
