usb midi jack

edited May 2013 in General
I can't seem to receive MIDI clock through the usb jack. I can get it to work through the MIDI in port... I've got the global bpm set to 0. When I plug in the usb cable, windows recognizes it and installs drivers for it.  Any thoughts?

  • SOLVED!  I updated the firmware.  I noticed though, now I can't just press play and start a pattern without running Ableton.
  • SOLVEDx2!  Now it works...  I think I should go to bed.
  • I love it when problems solve themselve like this ;)
  • back to the same issue...not sure if it is 0.17 firmware.  Can't get LXR to receive clock.
  • And again it's working...not sure what I've done that makes it work.
  • Maybe you have a short on the USB Jack, see this Flickr Album There are 2 Pads benath the USB Jack that might cause irritations, maybe you desolder the Jack, put a piece of Tape on it (the red stuff in the Pic) and resolder it.
  • I'll try it, I really tried to be careful when I built it but you're probably right.
  • Keep us update - this is a viable Information for the next iteration of PCBs
  • must have been...works perfectly now.
  • Im the remote troubleshooting hero ;-)
  • I remember that part in the assembly instructions, but I thought "I'm a wiz at soldering, I don't need no tape!"
  • the problem is not you being no soldering wiz, but me being no PCB design wiz ;)

  • I'm also just used to things either working or not working (it's very binary)...none of this kinda working stuff. :)
  • This same problem has now creeped up again...I have great sync through MIDI, but none through USB.  I've tried two cables now, and it seems like LXR just isn't sending or receiving through the port.

EDIT:  It seems like it was due to being plugged into my USB hub not directly to the computer.

  • that's what you get for relying on 3rd party USB libraries :(
I'll put USB makeover on my todo list.
  • It was weird because it worked sometimes, and shows up in MIDI preferences in Ableton.
  • especially strange since it is not a USB powered device.
but I think i never tried it with a hub.
  • I suppose the logic that information like clock sent directly from the computer or soundcard via MIDI is stronger than through a hub first?
  • A hub should be transparent for any kind of information and since USB is digital you either have a Signal or not. There is no "strength" of Signal besides in the physical layer....
