Sequencing external gear

  • Nice one loderbast! MOARR videos please!! :)

Will there be Midi tracks in addition to the 7 sequencer tracks? Maybe switch a track between Drum and Midi mode so we can have 7 sequences for external gear? That would be beyond awesome!! :)
  • Thanks flip.
Unfortunately i lended the camera from a friend and he wants it back tonight :(

About the external sequencing: i am 100% with you about adding tracks for external gear. I would even vote for it if it means other features can't be added due to limited processor power.
  • Oh please don't make it a Eierlegende Wollmilchsau suffering from Featuritis.....
  • what would you mean with extra tracks?
additional external tracks besides the 7 drum tracks?

I thought about adding a dedicated midi channel to each track that outputs note, velocity on/offs with a fixed gate length. Or what would be your idea?
  • What I meant were tracks that just output Midi and don't trigger internal sounds.

Just being able to program Midi notes separately from the drum triggers in each of the 7 tracks would already be perfect.
  • +1 here.

i originally fantasized about having additional extra that are only for midi out, but thinking about that this would end up with bad usability because of the surface layout (1button per track)
so i guess adding midi to the existing tracks is just fine.
maybe it is possible to use the volume-decay to controll gate length?

  • i presume there's not enough coding space to have what the octatrack does - basically use a button combination (e.g. voice & shift) to switch to MIDI tracks - and then have the same number again of MIDI tracks, with the same buttons used to access each.....   I realise that is probably pie in the sky - but even if you could only implement 3 tracks of MIDI, having them "in addition to" rather than "instead of" would be better if you have uses planned for all the lovely internal voices  :)
  • Yes, that would be really nice. By the way, is there already a code repository or something to have a look at the source?
  • Yo Ladies,
why not pool all of your ideas and talk Julian into doing a Sequencer? Its no use pimping up a dedicated DrumSynth to an Eierlegende Wollmilchsau....
I guess no one of you is constantly touring round the world while carrying your Rig as MLC luggage, so what about another piece of gear, thats 107% dedicated to a special purpose instead of a bent as max one?
  • @fcd:
personally i don't want the LXR to be a "eierlegende wollmichsau" (en: something that "does it all") and use it to sequence my whole setup or something.
BUT as it is gonna be my main drum device anyways, it would be cool to be able to sequence some external drum voices.
the main usecases i am thinking of is this:
    - sequencing drums comming from other synths/ samplers or dedicated drum devices like jomox m.brane etc.

...or put the midi into midi->gate-device to interface with modular (if the possibility of a gate out mod dies due to all the free gpio pins getting used for a programmer or something...)

should we move this discussion over to the firmeware suggestions thread by the way?

    cheers Paul

  • I need a real small setup because I'll be travelling around a bit soon. I just need one or two Midi sequences, to program some basslines and fx. If it's not planned to do anything like this, maybe I can hack something up when the firmware source is released?
  • I'm with fcd72, let the drumsynth be a drumsynth.
  • I'm with fcd72 too ... it's drumsynth, but it's also a drum sequencer. If a few extra miditracks dedicated to sequencing drums could be squeezed in there in would be great.. Nothing fancy just one note per track & velocity, no note duration CC's PB PG or MW . Just like other drumcomputers
  • Yes, I agree shiftr, keep it very very simple.
  • Why don't you order @kvitekp MidiAlf if you need a midi sequencer ?

  • @cereyanlimusiki:
i am doing that anyways ;)
  • edited May 2013
    Yes, me too :)
  • My MidiAlf order is on its way to Europe :-)) and I am looking forward to the day that I can place my order for LXR :-<
  • +1 for keeping it simple, however it would be nice to send the occasional note to trigger external gear.

  • +1 more for keeping it simple - a couple of trigger outs Julian already mentioned would be simple to add.
Something for the future he has plenty on his plate at the moment!  And the internal voices are very cool & flexible.  If it gets done, one vote for extra tracks rather than robbing existing ones - but even this as an option could be handy.  It's all good...
  • my use for this feature would be with a 9090. each instr uses an assignable midi note on the same channel.
so can per track note data be duplicated & output with selectable midi note? that would do me.
if we have gate out can we also have a dinsync run/clock out?

  • at the moment the NOTE ON messages are already send on a selectable midi channel.
The note numbers for each track are fixed.
  • i finally did the midi mod to my monotribe and glad to say all 3 drums are on different voice channels and for the first time i have that little korg doin a shuffle! :-S
is there note off's in the latest firmware? monotribe synth section ignores them apparently, but since i am without my 9090 for a couple of weeks its the only thing i'm testing with for now..

  • no - no note offs yet :(
you should be able to program them with normal note on messages and a velocity of zero as a work around.
