How do you make toms ?

I keep on working doing drum, but the tom (high medium low) I make sounds very bad and not really like a good TR TOM for examples... Can you share here your receipe for making good tom ?. MAybe there is some good tom in the presets, but i can't find one... Don't be affraid to share the exotic drum you made too, i'm really curious
(cowbell, rimshot, conga, cymbals, etcetc)
I know i can use tom samples, but i would love to experiment with the LXR, since the 3 first voices seem to be made for tom, i hope some of you could share some tips. THANKS
