Firmware BETA Issue

edited February 2014 in General
Hey All -

Loaded up the firmware to try using my own samples.  Everything worked well, got the new Load Samples menu, loaded up some samples (from the Akai site) and they show up in the Oscillator waveform menu. When I select a sample, though, the LXR freezes. LEDs that were lit stay lit, but pressing any button does not light any LED and the menu does not change.  Reboot, all is well until I select a user sample then same problem.

  • maybe to big file size?
not sure what happens if samples > the max filesize  are loaded (i think it is something around 490kb)
  • Thanks, I should have mentioned that the total file size is about 480K. I think the biggest sample is the kick, which is 300-something k...
  • A 300k kick ? Oo
  • Yeah, from the Akai library, an 808 kick.  But that was not what I was selecting when the failure happens. That one is 70k
  • Is that the MPX8 AKAI library? The one I have has 2 x 808 kicks 136KB and 178KB (44.1K mono samples) - I wonder if you are converting your samples to something else which is confusing the LXR? Just a thought....
  • Yes, that's the library and I inverted the 3 and the 1 on the size! The kick is actually 136K not 360 :/  No conversion on any of the samples, straight unzip and copy to the samples folder on the SD card.
  • Not sure what could be the problem here.
I'd try to re-install the firmware and try to load a single sample (just to be sure it is not too much data)
but normally this should not freeze the UI, since most of the magic happens on the mainboard. The UI inly gets a new limit set for the number of available waves.
  • When I load samples into and empty pattern, what default setting should I make to hear the sample's original shape/ sound. And how many samples are from the LXR itself? I loaded about 13 conga samples, but it shows 25 samples, maybe it's also a macfile problem, so that 2 files of actually one appear?
  • Ok, thinking about it more, thats not totally possible and actually doesn't go along with the idea of the LXR, because it's made to produce your own sounds. But I adjust some samples now so that I can hear what sample I actually have in front of me. Nevermind ; )

I'll try that Julian, good idea :)

  • Re-flashed and loaded a single kick sample of 140K and it works like a charm!  Maybe I was loading too much.  I will try to get the ideal set of samples now with snare, clap and hats :)

Thanks, Julian, and everybody else for their input.

  • I thought I implemented an 'abort on memory full' routine, but I am not sure anymore.
I'll have a look into the code.
  • It may have been *very* close! I have a sample set in there that I like now.  Thanks, Julian!
