23 display and running light problem (solved)

edited January 2014 in Troubleshooting
Yesterday I finished my soldering. Everything went fine with the voltage tests and even got the normal screen after plugging in. Most of the buttons were ok and the diodes worked for every button (except one from the 16's but I solved that). In power on mode the start button didn't effect anything, but worked before with the diode. That means I had no running light. Then I read in another thread here to check the start button and its solder. I did that, but after resoldering the screen got problems. It shows squares and a 23 (!) and some chinese letters (real ones ; ) ).
I reheated the screen contacts just in case but it remains the same.

I have one thing to say, I used a DC 7,5 -or 9 V but with only 300mA, it worked so far but could that be a problem when at least 600mA is required?

The board at the start button solder from the bottom looks a bit soapy from the flux, I hope I didnt destroy any subway connection there?!

Or could it be a problem with the the Atmega?

Thank you for any help!

So this happens when you work too late through the night and when youre new to it... I totally forget the 10 K resistors.Damn! That could have caused a problem, but I have no idea why I measured 5 Volts still, whatever. Will it help to desolder the display and reattach it? What should I do? Do I have to replace new parts? Sorry for the newbie trouble.

Of course Ima get the 600mA DC one tonight.

Update: After two beers : D , the display works again . I read in the other thread

    http://forum.sonic-potions.com/discussion/142/no-led-blinking-after-soldering-but-only-strange-sings-on-lcd-solved#Item_34

...and updated, it's working again. No lights are running but I think its apower problem. Gonna try it with the new DC...
  • So did the dc change your problem?

Yes and no @erwanone, after a little odyssey I got one after eight o clock, atached it and it worked, almost...Running light yes, but I found out it would have worked with the old one as well. I had the LXR on my lab without the case, so it tilted a bit when I pressed the start button (also the rec, shift and copy only do), then it worked. Same problem with the voice, perf, step and load buttons. All others work fine. Then I touched the 74HC165 -IC and I could use it likea ribbon controller and switch between menues, crazy. I'm examining this one now and I'm happy with the progress. Let you know whats happening. Thanks!

I think I have it! I explored one pin of the 74HC165-IC that I forgot to solder … ; ) All buttons are working now, Jay!!! I think I found out about that because of the beer, lol!
  • thats the counterpart of the victory candy... the troubleshooting beer ;)
  • Everything works fine now! Great machine! Danke für den Kaffee und die Einblicke nochmal
    :^o
  • gern geschehen :)
