Spare header?

Hi!
Where I can solder this part?

Comments

  • you can use it to stuff the AVR ISP header if you want to attach an AVR programmer to the mainboard and solder the other half to the still unused expansion port.

So in the end it is not really needed.

  • Ok. Thanks/
  • I don`t know if this was here...
Better way to fix knobs - piece of thermal shrinking pipes.

  • Good idea! I would have rough shrinking tube would be too thick.
  • I bought diameter 6mm  before shrink. Knob secured very well. Only trick is tube will be rough.

And also... I build machine! It work!
    Thanks Julian!
  • Do you have a PN for this tube (or a link), what tools does it require? I've never worked with this before.
I've been wanting to fix my knobs as well.
  • just search for "heat shrink tubing" at mouser.
You don't need special tools. A hot air source (or a lighter if you are carefull) is enough.
it's just a plastic tube that shrinks when heated. normally it comes as a long piece and can be cut down to small pieces. Often used on solder joints between wires and pots to isolate and stabilize the solder joint.

  • Yeah, and beware where you buy it. At some places they are obscenely expensive.
  • Thanks. So we are saying 6mm is the one to get. So a hairdryer would work, or it needs to be hotter?
  • I would have thought you need something hotter.
But I just tried it with a small piece and our crappy hairdrier and it shrunk.
So it works. But I had to get quite close with the hairdrier.
Normally I use a hot air gun ;)

I just have a very thik 6.3mm tube here, that shrinks to 3.2mm.
it seemed a little bit too thick, but I got the cap on the button and it fits snuggly.

since the plunger of the switch is 3.2mm I'd say a 4mm tube should be good.
Normally there are a sizes in the specs for the tube. Initial size and size after shrinkage.
It is only important that the initial size fits over the plunger and that it will shrink below 3.2mm

Hairdryer is ok!! Just be careful and heat up not for a long time.
I bought different types of tubes in local marketplace called "RADIORINOK" ;-)
One 1.5m long  tube cost $0.33. Cheaper version is $0.17.
