LXR + MPC == Dream Machine

Anyone else constantly thinking about how much fun it would be to have trigger pads in addition to/replacement of the step sequencer buttons? I imagine it being able to handle MPC style sequencing and live trigger mode a la the LXR (press and hold for a roll, it respects the sequence details you have already programmed for the loaded pattern).

Ideally it would even have a new PCB that could handle loading samples to some small amount of RAM from an SD card and maybe even having some CPU to burn on digital effects.

  • I use a Korg PadKontrol with my LXR, this is fun i can recommend !
  • I've used my Quneo's pad to trigger it...It works fine but I've never been a pad user so I'm not a great source :)
  • I am thinking of a 100% integrated system. Not external trigger pads but an LXR in something like an MPC form factor. An MPC with a synth engine and an LXR with greater sampling capabilities, in one unit. A fusion :)

@julian, would something like that even be possible (I can imagine the sampling stuff would be the hardest, it can't be too hard to add a pad array through the trigger expansion, no?)

  • Well, everything is possible as long as you make it happen ! ;)

  • the problem with pads is the manufacturing.
getting custom silicone molds to produce some pads is in the range of 5k€ just for the molds.
the same reason that put me off illuminated silicone pads instead of the TL switches :-/
  • Has any of you guys seen what Elektron up to ?

  • Looks like Maschine and machinedrum had a baby.
  • Yeah, that new Elektron unit is quite similar to what I've been envisioning, except I would take more space with it. It looks a bit too much like a Machinedrum with some tiny pads stuck in. I would go the other route and have plenty of room on the face of the machine.

@julian -- that explains why I have yet to stumble over any DIY MPCs I guess… :(
