i thnik there was some comment over at mi that could be interpreted in a way that something new is in the works. (would make sense that it uses the same mainboard which has the option to use two if the outputs as inputs if i remember correctly) but nothing specific was leaked so far - this is only my speculation.
Nothing I will talk about now. There is stuff in the pipeline, but I don't want to create unneccessary pressure by announcing anything if it is still far from release
@cereyanlimusiki I have the feeling it will get better soon. My son is 1 1/2 years old now and finally sleeping through the night for some months now :-D
But it's veen more trouble while he is awake and climbing on all the stuff

I was reading about some options for replacing the stock button caps on the LXR (electrical tape works, but it seems like some buttons just won't hold), and it got me thinking about the old Yamaha QX sequencer series.
I don't know if anyone else here is a fan of mechanical (typing) keyboards, but yes, those are Cherry MX switches on a synth.
While they're not very pretty, I think these could be great buttons for future Sonic Potions projects. They can be PCB or plate mounted. There are several different switches with varying actuation types and tactile/acoustic responses. There are tons of options for cap customization and printing, and several services that provide these cheaply. Even textured caps. And they're relatively cheap, starting at around $.80 on Mouser.
I hope most of you are clear about the point, that the use of these switches will need a lot more space, ergo bigger PCBs, bigger enclosures and resulting out of this, a decent higher price...
I'm new to the whole electronics assembly and design game, but as long as the switches can be plate mounted, it would not actually require any PCB modifications to use these right? Definitely a different case though. Maybe something made out of metal

I'm really no expert. I don't think they're that much bigger than the current switches on the LXR. Not saying they're interchangeable, but the footprint of the switch is pretty small.
OK I hope the Cherry love in this thread isn't getting too obnoxious. But did you know its a German company? I believe the switches are manufactured at their facility in Bayreuth. Maybe the parts could be sourced cheaper locally?
not only would the PCB need a redesign. they are 11.6mm high, so they would not fit unter the current frontplate (10mm). Also with 15.6mm they are too wide to fit the current layout.
so nightworxx is right: "the use of these switches will need a lot more space, ergo bigger PCBs, bigger enclosures and resulting out of this, a decent higher price..."
not to mention a comlete redesign of the PCB which takes a considerable amount of time :-/
so I think it is not worth the effort for the current LXR.
but i got to order someof these switches to see/feel if the<y are really as great as all of you are telling
Comments
Is it just me or you also have an Ambika to build ?
I'm not blaming you though, I am also suffering from sefl-diagnosed G.A.S.
Not sure about Sonic Potions but the MidiREX and Audiothingies P6 look promising...
- CV upgrade fo my MidiAlf!
- Trigger board for my LXR (when finished by Julian)
- getting lost in modular stuff
- refurbishing my complete studio...

my son is now 4 years old, but when he was 1,5 year he discover "the way" - the best what he do is pushing and tweaking (photo is his initiation
So, Julian: "stop climbing, start tweaking"
I know

oldschool cherry keyboard buttons have the best feeling when pressing

15.6 x 15.6 mm compared to the current switches at 12.5 mm.

You gotta get yourself either a Cherry switch sampler or a full on mechanical keyboard. They are the ultimate momentary switches...
