BASE line version of the LXR request !!!

edited December 2013 in Off Topic
Hi

I was wondering if there is a way to make other firmware so you have a BASE line version of the LXR .
So you can buy 2 lxr s put different firmware on it and play some raw Acid .

I am a musiscian pasionated to the TB303 sound , i am working for a while with the LXR , the baseline sounds are so great , but always frustrated
There is only one line for baseline . The working of programming is perfect . If you are planning making a new version maybe a litle idea . The world of house, techno, acid is crying for a decent TB clone or something payable with an unique sound .
The LXR is has already unique sound, whats gonna be next

Ahem, if it's a TB clone you are longing for the XOXBOX or a Cyclonix may be a better way to go. If you want it diy go for the xox, it's not more expensive than the LXR. Or if you don't want do it yourself go for a Cyclonix TT-303, they are used around 500 bucks, and better off than the original !
  • I've been having fun with the volca bass. It's no 303, but it's all analog, costs $150 and comes fairly close. If you want a 303 sound you need to have analog vco and vcf. So having a 303 sound on the LXR would be neat, but it's not going to sound as good (in my humble opinion) because of the digital filter and oscillator.

That said, I think it would be neat to have a switchable "synth" mode for two of the drum sounds. I don't think it's too far off, as I've been able to get some decent basslines out of my lxr.
  • No No the TT bot has some bad revieuws, the DIY xox boxes are in y mind to. There is a new version of the TT bot hope this one is better. The LXR is just so good layed ot that makes me think, it wold be very nice to have a synth version of it . Only softwarewize , i dont know if that is possible but , it would be a great ste up one LXR as synth the other as drum . It doesnt have to be only 303 sound some moog and others to . I know its not analog but if you know what your doing its easy to camouflage the digitalty , gonna check that volca base

The TT is good enough for the Devilfish mod. And both boxes i laid my hands on were absolutely flawless, compared to the last few TBs i had in my fingers. So i personally wouldn't give too much on a review of a "religious" object in the internet.
  • what would be needed for a propper baseline voice?
I think the voies 1-3 are quite close to a standard subtractive synth voice.
Only an ADSR instead of an AD is missing.
But a propper ADSR would need a different sequencer approach (gate length and glides...)

I tend to agree with Julian : If you tweak your drum sound a little you can get really nice results for some TBish action and still have 6 voices left of percussive sounds...

Maybe it is time for the community to start sharing kit patches :)
  • I don't think ADSR would be needed for bass, I think AD is fine. Probably just a way to link filter cutoff to the amp envelope (ie how much is the filter cutoff influenced by the amp envelope).

you can use one of the LFOs as a filter EG as a workaround.
maybe even modulate the LFO depth with the note velocity for some TB like accents?
  • Thats true, or I guess you could play with the lfo mod depth in realtime, or mod the mod depth using another lfo.
