Midi questions

Hi,

I'm slaving my mfb522 to the LXR's clock. This works, although the mfb seems to lag a bit on fast notes.

The problem is that the LXR is also triggering sounds on the mfb, because apparently they're are mapped to the same note numbers as the internal sounds. I've looked at the settings menu but can't seem to find the midi channel setting.

Is there a general "send midi notes off" setting as well? I just want it to send clock.

Thanks

  • Go into mix settings for each voice, and set the midi channel to 16, and make sure your other gear is not listening on that channel.
  • what about sending midi clock if lxr is in the middle of a chain. I was having trouble sending only clock or making it thru

I'm gonna make it the midi master clock in my chain because apart from my Atari STE it seems to have the tightest timing of all. The shuffled midi clock is also a fantastic feature!

Too bad it doesn't have a thru, yes. Fewer and fewer of the new instruments seem to have them these days. Better get a midi patchbay or some thru and merge boxes.

true. I use my octatrack as master but I need to try out the midi shuffle. but it should still send midi clock out that its reciving in.
  • The DSI Mopho has a midi out that can be switched to act as a midi thru. That would make sense as a feature on the LXR. In the sense that it would save you the cost of another thru box.

  • This little guy was one of the best investments I made. It's powered by the midi bus as well so no extra wall warts. That said, I don't think that adding midi soft thru would be that hard to add to the LXR:

of course one could always diy a thru box...

    for example like this:

all it takes is basically a hex inverter, optocouper and a bunch of resistors
  • o hell ya loderbast im all over that thanks for the schemo

I have the same one, very happy with it. I use it at the output of my MMT-8 sequencer to keep midi chains short and avoid signal delays.

But currently I want to use the LXR as master clock, connected to the MMT-8's input. The MMT-8 has only one input, but I also need to connect a master keyboard to record my synth parts. If the LXR had thru functionality I could just plug the keyboard into the LXR's input and be done with it. Guess I'll have to get a merge box as well...

I've built a number of these.  A real life saver if you have a bunch of midi gear.  Also it is awesome if you want to jam with other people using synth/sequencer stuff.   Easy to build on perf board and mount in a stomp box enclosure.

  • Anyone have a diagram for a simple diy merger? I looked at the MidiBox merge, but it requires a PIC burner.
  • There is no such thing as a "Simple" merger ;-)

Its highly complicated to merge 2 Streams of Data that arent designed to be merged, you will have to keep track of things like running status, divorced NRPN Messages and SysEx while Merging.

I'd suggest just buying one, in the time you need to track down the parts and build it you easily can earn the Money for one ;-)

(No, i dont own one, i use the AMT-8/Unitor Series of MIDI interfaces that can Merge streams or the Cirklon)
  • .there might be a pcb run for kvitekp midithru boards happening here...
