Faulty encoder, or software issue - can someone else try this?

edited October 2013 in Troubleshooting
I'm trying to determine whether my encoder is faulty or if this is a software issue: when I rotate the encoder clockwise, it works as it should: every click increments the value. But when I rotate it counter-clockwise, each click will either change the value or not. eg sometimes I can click it 15 times in this direction and it works fine, but then subsequent clicks will cause the value to flicker but stay on the same value (as though I clicked it over and then back quickly) and it will do this for a few clicks, then resume proper operation for a few more clicks.
Can anyone either verify that this is behavior consistent with a bad encoder, or can someone else try it out to see if its exhibited on other units (indicating a possible software issue) before I order a new encoder.

Comments

  • i'm at work so i'm not able to try it right now but i can ensure you that i never experienced such an issue with the encoder on my unit
  • Nothing like that happens on my encoder.
  • resolder the 3 pins from the encoder and you are probably fine.
