extended fuses are unchanged, so they are 0xff, too. no lockbits are set. kind of pointless with available source. the bootloader can not be overwritten since it is in its own memory region.
I think you should change the fuses to enable the brownout-detector! I had issues in some of my projects using a bootloader when the bod was not enabled: sometimes the AVR would trash it's flash, likely by erroneously executing some of the flash writing code while the power was going down. Were there not a couple of people here having issues with a trashed AVR-flash, whichwas repaired by a firmware update? Maybe it is due to this...
