Drumsynth Pioneers Run [All seats reserved]

Sonic Potions Pioneer Run

Ok so here's the deal.
Do NOT order a pioneer kit if
- You don't want to build it immediately (Regular kits will be available shortly after the pioneer run)
- You mind being a beta tester
- You don't want to give feedback

There will be 20 pioneer seats. You can choose if you'd like:

a PCB only kit containing

- 1 frontpanel PCB
- 1 assembled, programmed and tested mainboard
- (optional 1 programmed Atmega644p)

a complete kit containing
- 1 frontpanel PCB
- 1 assembled, programmed and tested mainboard
- Programmed Atmega644p
- All parts necessary for assembly
- OLED display
- enclosure and SD card NOT included!

PCB only kits are available immediately. They can be shipped starting Thursday the 25th. I hope the victory candies arrive in time ;) Full kits probably one week later (still waiting for my antistatic bags and packing needs to be done)

Pricing:
The normal price in the shop will be:
- PCB set front/mainboard 120,00 €
- Programmed Atmega644p 10,00 €
- Full Kit 280,00 €
- shipping is 5,- € in Germany and 10,- € worldwide (registered mail)

Pioneers are granted a 10,- € discount.

The catch is:
- There will still be some bugs in the firmware. A list of known bugs is available here.
- You will have to give me feedback about errors/bugs
- The manual will be incomplete. There is an already ~60 page long manual draft, but it still needs a lot of work to be finished.

Since the rest of the tasks seems to be finished (parts are complete, one lucky guy already built his test kit successfully! :) ) I will concentrate on firmware/manual work now. The firmware is already very usable, but there are still some points on my todo list. Let's see if I will fix them faster than you build your boards ;)

How to get your seat:

ALL SEATS RESERVED!
- Write an email with you order to pioneer@sonic-potions.com
- I will send you an confirmation email with payment details.
- I accept Paypal and bank transfer
- First come, first serve!

I'm excited!

  • Many congratulations!

I'd love to joint the pioneer run, but alas I cannot commit the time it deserves. However I will eagerly await the next batch.

Much success to you and thank you for developing this.

BTW has it a name yet?
    :)

I'll pass too because I have other assembly work to finish at the moment but I'm sure it will be a huge success as it will be the first advanced DIY groovebox sold as a full kit...

Nice work Julian, I can't wait for the official release !
    :^o
  • :-)) i'm on board.

didn't need much convincing, been waiting for this.

  • E-mail sent ...
  • all aboard!!!
  • The ingredients for the PCB only potioneers will ship tomorrow.
  • SD-Card image, Firmware and further instructions will be up over the next days.
Please remeber to do a firmware update after the build to be sure to have the latest version.
  • We spend the evening sorting parts. So if you are lucky the complete kits will also ship this week.
  • @julian did you mean regular complete kits ? or pioneers complete kits ?
  • pioneers.
For the regular kits I have to wait for feedback from the pioneers.
  • Yo! :)
Sorry if its been asked before, what are the dimensions of the PCB? Will there be a manual? If so, when? I would like to read it :)
  • it's about 133x263mm

There is a draft for a manual but I will have to put some work in it before I am comfortable to release it to the public. Maybe on the weekend when I have time to work on int (still got a normal dayjob)

PCB only kits are on their way!
    :-))
  • Awesome! Thanks for the answers!! :)
  • OK! All components ordered from Mouser UK.  There are only black & red button caps left and USB socket also out of stock but there are alternatives.
FYI after applying VAT at 20%, even with free shipping the price is about the same as the kit.
So I got to choose my LED, knob and display colours but had to go with all black buttons - think the kit button scheme looks better.
What I'm trying to say is - for any pioneers who don't have parts already/supplier cheaper than Mouser/0%VAT/unconquerable urge to change components ... the pioneer full kit will be very good value!!!
    x jk
  • interesting. I thought it should have been much cheaper to get all the parts at mouser. Maybe I just forgot to add VAT in my excell sheet? :-< or it still used the cheapest price from all vendors option :-/
In my book the PCB only should have been about 20-30 bucks cheaper than the full kit :(
  • To be fair I think there is about 20 euros in it & still worth doing if every penny counts.. think due to inexperience in the parts sourcing game I was just aggrieved at Mouser's unexpected addition at the last stage before payment - was hoping to keep parts cost under £100 as two figures doesn't raise so many eyebrows on the family bank statement!! & the VAT just tipped me over.
Still fantastic value - as people have said there just isn't anything else DIY in the same ballpark.
    jk
  • complete kits will ship tomorrow.
    just finished sorting parts.
Pioneers will receive their tracking number tomorrow after i've got some sleep ;)
    good night
  • @Julian Have you decided colour of enclosure ?
  • default enclosures will probably be dark neuropa.
The OLED display and LEDs should be powerfull enough to shine through the front.
But I am waiting for the final prototype to arrive here before I can be sure or the design.

Custom cases will be available @fcd72
